This is definitely a major site for the topic of fetal development because it has information about a lot of different aspects of pregnancy. It has information on the overview of pregnancy, and its trimesters. And it also has information and explains about the fetal life supporting systems. It even has information on labor and birth and the different types and everything that goes along with it. This site also has some neat graphics on some of the different stages of fetal development, but it doesn't really have that many that are really that great.
This site is a national health organization whos goal is to give information on pregancy wellness and reproductive issues through reserach, education, and community awareness. They believe that reserch is significant to reproductive discoveries. And they are here to help people and this why they have this great site with wonderful information.
In this site it gives an overview of the three trimesters in pregnancy. Each trimester being about 3 months. The first trimester being from the first week till about the 12th week of pregnancy. During this trimester the egg is fertilized and the embryo will start to grow and develop into a fetus with arms and legs and brain and heart. The second trimester begins at about week 13 up until the 27th week. This is the next three months of pregnancy where the fetus now has more movements which the mother begins to feel. The fetus looks more like a newborn and this skin becomes less transparent. If born at this stage the fetus could survive with the help of medical technology. Lastly is the third trimesterwhich is the last three months of pregnancy where the fetus becomes bigger and it’s the head starts going into the crown position for birth. At 38 weeks the fetus is ready to be born at any time now.
It also explains a lot about the different fetal life supporting systemswhich includes the placenta, umbilical cord and amniotic sac. The placenta is a pancake shaped organ that’s the main trading post between the mother and babies blood supply. It transports nutrients and oxygen from the mothers blood to the fetus. It is attached to the baby by the umbilical cord which is the life which transports these nutrients into the fetus. After birth the umbilical cord is cut off usually by the father and the placenta is delivered called the after birth. The amniotic sac is also important because it is considered the baby’s home and its filled with amniotic fluid which allows the fetus to swim and move freely within the mother.
Labor and birth is another thing that’s talked about here very well. It talks about different techniques for getting ready for birth. It has information about the different birthing types. A vaginal deliverywhich is the normal delivery. Cesarean deliveriesthrough an incision made in the abdomen. Having water birthsand much more. There is some information about some of the complications that may occur like the baby being in breech positionwhich is when the baby feet or buttocks are delivered first. There are even some signs of labor including your water breaking and contractions beginning.
