Mother And Baby

To contact us Click HERE

One of the things that a lot of parents are not sure about when it comes to their babies is when to start them on solid foods. They seem to be worried that if they do it at the wrong time there will be serious consequences. In reality this is not the case; your child will let you know when he is ready for solid foods so you just have to watch for the signs.

In order to determine when your child is ready to start eating solid food you are going to have to watch for the signs that he gives you. Normally this will happen somewhere between four and six months but some children will wait a little bit longer. Before six months they won't be able to digest the foods properly. You don't have to worry about feeding him solids before he can handle them, he won't eat them anyway, babies can't swallow solids before they reach the point where they can digest them.

The signs that you are going to want to look for to determine if your baby is ready for solid foods are that he is able to sit upright, he may need to be assisted but he should be able to sit up. He also needs to be able to control his head. If you see these signs you can start to give him solids but if he uses his tongue to push them out of his mouth he is not ready so you will need to wait a little bit longer.

In a lot of cases even when your child is ready for solids it is going to take some effort on your part to get him to eat them. The best way to do this is to start to introduce them right after nursing. If you give him a small amount right after he has been nursed he will learn that what you are giving him is food and that he is supposed to eat it.

The type of food that you give your child really won't matter, most people use vegetables but when your baby is ready for solids he can eat any foods that an adult would eat. Just keep in mind that babies have very sensitive taste buds so you will want to give them something that is quite bland. The food will also need to be something that you can puree as they will not be able to chew their own food.

Tips For Choosing Baby Shower Foods

To contact us Click HERE
A baby shower is a very exciting celebration in every parent's life. Since this event happens for only a few times in every family's lifetime, it is important to make this event memorable for the family and all the other people involved in it.

Throughout the times, the way showers are held has changed. Before, it was only held to welcome every family's first born child but now any children may be welcomed to the world with it. It also used to be an all-women celebration where men were not really allowed to join but today, there are already some showers that are predominantly held for the father. Despite these changes, the purpose of welcoming the baby with gifts and best wishes are still retained.

Baby shower celebrations are basically divided into several segments including the entertainment part and the dining part. Both of these are very crucial to the event because these also determine its success. For now, we would be focusing on the baby shower foods.

Even though this type of event is almost similar to other get-togethers, the decision on the baby shower foods is still of great importance. The menu must be well planned to make sure that people will enjoy the meal and the party will progress finely. Just a slight mistake with the meal could lead to a disaster which is why it is very important for the baby shower organizer to put this aspect as one of his priorities.

One way of making the baby shower foods would perfectly complement the party is by making sure it perfectly suits the party theme. Baby shower parties are popular because it is one of the often-themed celebrations of all time. By coordinating the food with the theme, the guests will be able to have a greater realization of what the party is all about. The food can help improve the ambiance which will enhance the overall experience

Making sure that the food is also according to the mother's preferences will make her feel more special. Since the party is basically for her and her baby, it is just right to cater everything she would want. Do this by asking the mother for any specific dish she would want to be included and try your best to grant her request. If she stays happy, the guests will be on a good mood and the party will be a blast.

Also consider the allergies that the people involved may have. An allergy attack can ruin the entire party or worse, it can cause bad memories. So as much as possible, see to it that everyone will be able to enjoy their meals without worrying about any adverse reaction they might acquire. If you think this is unavoidable, keep a first-aid kit nearby.

The baby shower foods should also depend on the time of the party. The goal of serving the meal is to keep the guests full so that they would be energetic for the party. If it is lunch time or dinner time, make sure to serve full meals. Otherwise, opt for light ones.

Baby Food Recipes Tips

Are you stressed thinking what you are going to feed your baby? Do you cringe at tasting jarred baby food and you only give it to your baby because you think he or she doesn't know the difference? Then learn how to make nutritious homemade baby food recipes and you will not only give him the healthy benefits but will also help you save a lot of money.

According to experts, a 4 month old baby can start solid foods in combination with breastfeeding. However, some say that it is safer to start it on the 6th month of your baby's age. Baby food recipes to ideally start are rice porridge, mashed potatoes or bananas, or pureed apple. The recipe includes simple easy-to-digest foods such as cereals, fruits and vegetables.

Foods other than milk are really not important during the early months of his life. So there is absolutely no hurry to start solid foods. It is also ideal to create your own baby food recipes just like what you did when you were making your pregnancy diet plan to save money.

What You Should Not Forget When Making Baby Food Recipes

    * Always wash your hands, clean cooking utensils thoroughly, disinfect the preparations surface and wash the ingredients. Cleanliness is a must since the one who will eat the food preparations still has a sensitive tummy.
    * Give your baby the same homemade baby food for 4 days to test for allergies. So don't give more than 1 type of food at a time.
    * Don't prepare solid foods that can cause aspiration. Some examples include raw vegetables, peanuts, popcorn, candies, meat, and grapes.
    * After feeding, air can cause discomfort to your baby and may cause reflux or vomiting after feeding. Avoid it by carrying him safely against your shoulder with your hands firmly supporting his head and back then gently rub his back. Another way to this is by positioning him on his stomach on your hand supporting his back.
    * The safest thing to do before introducing solids to your baby is to discuss this with your paediatrician.

Additional Tip: After a continuous breastfeeding or bottle-feeding to your baby for more than 1 year, weaning may be necessary. It is important that you do it gradually to make it easier for your body and baby to cope with the changes. Weaning can be done by initially replacing one to three breastfeeding sessions a day with a bottle of formula milk or a bottle of fruit juice if bottle feeding (fruit juices should not be given to babies younger than 6 months old).

Food to Offer a Baby Turtle

To contact us Click HERE
Turtles are one of the cutest pets that you can have that you can't cuddle with. They are small and when they are babies they are so cute and of course slow! Learning how to take care of a new baby turtle is not common knowledge because they are not popular pets. It's easy to know what to do with dogs and cats because almost everyone has one or the other and they pass the information down to other people.

When taking care of new turtles the first thing you will need to know is how and what to feed them to keep them healthy. There is a variety of turtle foods that are available in different sizes and shapes and can be made with different ingredients. You can buy flakes and small pellet foods that are sold specifically for baby turtles.

The most common food for turtles that you can purchase are turtle sticks. These are great for any type of turtles including the babies. Water turtles will most likely need to eat the much larger floating pellets - but again they can be given to most other turtles.

One thing that we urge you never use are dried whole shrimp and bugs. The way that these are sold is very questionable and may not be safe for any turtles and especially the babies. There are shrimp pellets that can be used as treats - but not as a main source of food.

In order for your baby turtle to get all of the necessary nutrients and vitamins to stay healthy you can continue to feed them the sticks, flakes, and pellets. They have been made to contain all of these important and healthy nutrients to keep your baby turtle strong and well cared for. You can feed them cooked eggs and poultry as well as the shells.

If you need a slight substitute in the diet than you should consider fish foods. Many fish food have the same types of ingredients as turtle food. Don't even waste your time trying to feed your baby turtle fruits and veggies. They won't eat them. Other foods to stay away from are raw seafood and other raw meats. These contain too much fat and could make them sick with salmonella.

If you have any questions or concerns about what else to feed your baby turtle and where to buy the right turtle food than ask your veterinarian. Your vet will be able to give you all the instructions you need and can answer any questions that you have.

Have you ever been bedazzled by a theatrical trailer only to find out it completely misrepresented what the movie was about? False expectations can ruin a great movie. The same is true about what your trade show display tells visitors. If your trade show booth design doesn't embody the soul of your business, you're not doing your product justice.
So here are a few tips to help you imbue your custom trade show displays with the essence of your business.
Be true to yourself. You may have the most versatile vegetable peeler in the world, but fight the urge to try to be all things to all people. Focus your collateral material, your demos, and your talking points on what you do better than anyone. You'll be surprised how many people are willing to change their demand around a well presented product with a clear purpose. In fact, people love learning about novel ways to solve familiar problems, which leads us to our next tip.
Show off something fresh and unique. No one peruses custom trade show displays looking for the coolest thing from last year. Your brand is a living thing and people want to see life and progression. This doesn't mean you have to sit out the trade show just because you haven't invented a new product in awhile. Repackage what you have. Show what else is so unique about it. Make a minor design change. Little Giant Ladders revitalized sales for their ladder systems by adding a couple little wheels to move their ladder more easily. You can reinvent your product in the visitor's mind while maintaining your brands identity.
Sell a lifestyle, not just a product. This can be a challenge for a 10' by 6' trade show booth design. But why is there such a big market for high powered blenders right now? Not because the concept of a blender is new. It's because people love the idea of getting their nasty healthy leafy vegetables hidden in a delicious fruit smoothie. This idea is revolutionary. You're not selling a blender, you're pouring a refreshing 3-minute fitness smoothie down your customer's throat -- literally. Live demos are Blendtec's bread and butter. The best way to tell about the greatness of your product is to show it in action. Your customers will identify your brand with how it changes their lives, not just your product. So make sure your booth staff has the pitch or demo down well enough that your product can sell itself.

Sickness, Baby Love, and New 'Dos

To contact us Click HERE
The past few weeks have flown by in a blur of sickness.  We've had ear infections, sinus infections, walking pneumonia, bronchitis, high fevers, body aches, coughing, sneezing, and just all around misery.  It came to a head last Sunday when the fevers sky-rocketed in three of the children.  We took all last week off from school and just focused on getting better.  Of course, there were two dance rehearsals and recitals late in the week that couldn't be missed...but other than that we laid low.  So, many doctor visits and a few prescriptions later, we're back at it this week!  It feels good to be back in our routine.

Little Peter is 3 months old already!  He is cooing and smiling up a storm.  He is beginning to sleep better at night and will usually have 5-6 hours of sleep before waking to nurse.  He has outgrown his first set of clothes and has moved into size 2 diapers....I wish babies didn't grow so fast!  Needless to say, we are all smitten with our littlest man!

I couldn't get him to take his eyes off of the ceiling fan!
After their dance recitals, Madeline and Lillian both decided to cut off their hair and donate it to Locks of Love.  My girls are so laid back about their hair.  We pulled it back into a low ponytail and braided it.  Then I got out the scissors and chopped it off.  They are both quite happy with their new 'dos and I think they both look adorable. Perhaps I am a bit biased!

Lillian before....

and after!

Madeline before...

and after!

I'm hoping to get back into routine here and do a better job of posting more regularly.  I spend a lot of time sitting and nursing the baby, so I have many thoughts going through my head.  Now if I can just get some time to type them out...I'm sure you can't wait!

God Bless!

Heather :-)

Have you ever...

...been asked to leave the library because your children were too loud?  I have!  Yep.  Let me paint the picture for you.  We had been on the run for about 4 hours.  It's monsoon season here in Minnesota and the rains were unreal.  Our last stop of the afternoon was the library.  This is our favorite library with a humongous children's section loaded with puzzles, learning activities, computers, and of course books. Save the best for last, right?!  It's not your typical "you can only talk in whispers" type of library, but it is filled with children and liveliness. We walked in the door and the big 4 kids all scatter to their favorite location to look for books.  That leaves me with the 4 year old, 2 year old (who we had just woken up because she dozed in the car), and the hungry 3 month old.  We settle in and I get out my handy-dandy nursing cover to feed Peter.  Eleanor and Esther wander about 8 feet away from me and  proceed to choose the same toy and argue loudly.  I get up (while nursing the baby) and walk over to them to break up the argument.  They settle down.  I sit close by to keep the peace.  Problem solved, right?!  No, not exactly.

The man in the dark blue uniform with the word "SECURITY" where a name badge belong approaches me and the children.  He opens with, "Hello.  How are you doing today?" and then moves into, "We've had some complaints about your children.  If you can't keep it down, I'm going to have to ask you to leave."  I smiled and said, "OK."  He walked away and continued to survey the situation from a safe distance.

My mind was racing.  Really?  REALLY?!  The security guard was sent to warn the mom with the kids about her arguing preschooler and toddler?  Don't get me wrong.  They were loud and clearly not demonstrating proper library etiquette.  But, I had remedied the situation.  Why send in the "big guns" when a librarian clearly could have taken this "teachable moment" to chat with the kids about how to behave in a library.

Why didn't the security guard head out the doors and inform the woman who parked in the no-parking zone to "just run in quick" that she was actually breaking the law?  Why didn't the security guard suggest to the teenagers watching inappropriate you-tube videos that they could find something better to do with their time?

Or, more importantly, why didn't I stand up for myself?  Why didn't I ask who had complained and could I talk to them?   Why didn't I point out that these were children in the children's section of the library playing with the toys that the library provided for them?  Are there seriously people out there who hunker down near the children's section to do some intense studying that requires complete silence?

The other piece that really gets me is why did the person/people who complained complain to the security guard and not come talk to me?  I was sitting there, nursing a baby while trying to break up an argument between two little girls.  I clearly could have used some help. Gone are the times when we help each other out with parenting, I guess.

Alright, I'll end my rant.  This whole situation was so weird.  What do you think?  I'm interested to hear other moms thoughts about this.

God Bless!

Heather :-)

Madeline has been in some sort of dance since she was 4 years old.  Those early years were running, jumping, and mastering large motor skills.  Needless to say, she has progressed quite a bit in the past 8 years and has developed a real love for ballet.

She just celebrated her 12th birthday last week.  Today we made a trip into St. Paul to The Grand Jete to get her sized for her first pair of toe shoes. She has been working towards this for quite some time and is so excited to get up on her toes!

Look at all the possibilities!  So many boxes of shoes...where do we begin?!

Luckily, we had a fabulous helper that worked with us for over an hour to find a good fit for our budding ballerina.

Then she had to try, re-try, and try on again to make sure she found the perfect pair of shoes.

Success!  With bag in hand, we head home.

A HUGE thank you to Grandma Pam who wandered around the streets of St. Paul with 5 of my children while Peter and I sat with Madeline during the great shoe hunt.  What a learning process!

In a few weeks, Madeline will get together with her dance instructor to get started on her toes.  Although, after trying on all those shoes and being on her toes in the store today, she is realizing that it will take quite a while before her feet get used to that unnatural position.

God Bless!

Saturday Morning Treats!

You've probably passed by one of these Babycakes Donut Maker at some retailer in the past year or so.  I know that my kids took notice of it right away.

The first two batches waiting for toppings.

I figured it wouldn't be that great and repeatedly said no to their requests.  However, Grandma brought one when she came to visit over the winter and it was an instant hit at our house.

A fresh donut with a little chocolate frosting - a yummy start to the weekend!

It has become a Saturday morning treat at our house.  It takes 4 minutes to bake 6 mini-cupcakes.  I have some frosting, glaze, or powdered sugar for them to use as toppings.  Sprinkles bump up the fun factor to a whole new level, as long as you don't mind sweeping up sprinkles the rest of the week! I realize it isn't a super healthy way to start the day, but I know exactly what is in them and they are fresh...yum!

God Bless!

Spirit of America Celebration

To contact us Click HERE
Yesterday we attended a Spirit of America Celebration.  It is hosted by a wonderful lady in our parish who has a love for our country and our a desire to rekindle a knowledge of our founding fathers.  Each of the adults is assigned an identity of one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.  We then mingle to learn about each other and test our knowledge in a trivia game.  The children were also given identities and read some short pieces for a little program.  There was food to eat and games to play.  It was ridiculously hot (over 100 degrees in the shade!), but there were plenty of shade trees and a nice breeze.  I did duck inside the air conditioned home to feed Peter, but other than that we were all outside for over 3 hours.  It was a great afternoon with friends learning more about the men who risked it all to form our great nation.

Some children reading a bit of history about the 4th of July.

The adults showing off their knowledge (or lack of!) the founding fathers.

Some treats and of course a good variety of liquid refreshment.

Essie and Madeline taking a lemonade break in the shade.

Todd helping Lillian refill a water gun while holding sleeping Peter.

Most of the children played a game of Rounders which is a predecessor of America's favorite pass-time - baseball!

Isn't it pretty?!  Did I mention that we are huge fans of Cake Boss?  Not exactly up to Buddy's level, but we were happy with how it turned out!

We came home, sat in the air conditioning a bit, and had some friends over for a little BBQ.  She brought over the meat and potato salad and I provided some chips and veggies.  Then we had dessert that Haley and I made that morning.  Check it out....red, white, and blue cake!

The kids all headed outside to run in the sprinklers for a bit to wait for it to get dark.  Then we hopped into big blue and went to watch the fabulous fireworks display over the lake.  It was almost 11:00 pm before the last kiddo was tucked in, so it was a long and exhausting day.  I am glad that it only happens only once a year!

God Bless!

Weaning Your Baby to Solid Food

To contact us Click HERE
Weaning your breastfed baby is a slow and long process. Weaning is a gradual process of introducing baby to foods other than mother's milk. Experts recommend exclusively breastfeeding a baby till the age of 6 months. However, many doctors and parents prefer starting some liquid foods other than mother's milk, sometime between 4 and 6months, the closer it is to 6 months mark, the better.

By the time, your baby is 6 months old, she would have settled into some kind of rhythm (or may be not), of eating, sleeping etc. So, you know when she will expect her next feed. First time is extremely important. Do not rush. Ensure baby is relaxed and in a good mood.

A good weaning food to start is rice cereal, but if you do not want to start with commercially available rice cereals, you can start with many other things. Fruits like banana and apple are very popular and most kids love them. They are easy to digest and do not normally cause any allergies. Still, you can not be too careful, when it comes to feeding your baby. Follow the 3 days rule or may be 5 days, that's up to you. Taking it slow and following your baby's cues is extremely important.

The 3 day Rule

3 day rule simply means, whenever you introduce any new food item to your baby, you should wait for at least 3 days before introducing any thing else. This will ensure that you will be able to screen for any allergies if it happens. In case you notice anything like a rash, hives etc, stop that food immediately and wait for many weeks before trying again.

What to Give?

Rice Cereal - Take only one teaspoon of cereal and dissolve it in baby's milk or water. The consistency should be very very liquid, which can be fed to baby with a spoon. however, do not ever put cereal in baby's bottle, that can cause baby to choke.

Banana - Mash a small piece of banana or pass it through a strainer mix it with baby's milk to a thin consistency.

Applesauce - Clean and peel apple and cut into small pieces. Cook it well and pass it through a strainer, so that there are no lumps, again making it very thin.

How to Give?

Give only one teaspoon of whichever food you are giving. Make sure baby is not starving when you try this. Baby should be happy and relaxed to try the new experience. If your baby turns away head or seems averse to trying it, do not force. You want this to be happy experience not traumatic. Keep trying and gradually increase the amount over a week or so.

As baby grows, you can make food thicker and lumpier.

Homemade Baby Food

Making Homemade Baby Food

Making homemade baby food is not difficult. It is economically friendly and healthier than purchasing commercially prepared food for your baby. Baby food recipes range from puree to recipes incorporating table food into recipes for baby. It takes less time than you think to create fresh, healthy baby food. Making homemade food assures you and your baby no preservatives are used and baby is only getting nutritious and tasty food.

Things to Consider when Making Homemade Baby Food

Before making food for your baby, consult with your pediatrician, especially if this is the first somewhat solid food the baby will be eating. Your pediatrician will suggest foods to introduce to the baby and what foods should be eaten at specific ages or signs of maturing. If you choose fruits, vegetables and meat you like; your pediatrician may suggest better alternatives for different age groups.

Unless your baby displays a serious reaction to a certain food the first time they experience it, offer the baby the same food 4 days in a row. This method will allow time for a food allergy to manifest and will help determine the food the baby likes and dislikes. There will be some foods the baby will refuse to eat because of its taste, texture or smell, or even a combination of the three. It is not important for a baby to like everything offered. It is important the baby gets the right food with the proper nutrients. It is never a good idea to introduce a baby to more than one new food at a time for allergy discovering purposes.

Preparing the food ahead of time will be a tremendous time saver. A large quantity of food can be frozen in individual containers for future use. For example, the food can be frozen in ice cube trays and then transferred to another container for continued freezing. That method gives you baby food in easy to serve portions. The frozen portions will thaw quickly when set out on the counter or thawed in a microwave or submerging the contahner of hot water.

Precautions to take when making Homemade Baby Food

When preparing homemade baby food, always make sure your hands are clean, as well as the food preparation surface, pots or pans and cooking utensils. Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly before preparing the baby food, and if meat is being prepared, rinse the meat with room temperature water. Always be sure the baby food containers are clean and sterilized for baby's protection.

Always put a date on the homemade baby food container and store it properly. Refrigerate or freeze the baby food for future use, after preparation. Freeze the baby food in small quantities and only thaw one portion at a time. Do not refreeze any leftover baby food. After a feeding session, any food left in the dish should be discarded.

When serving baby food, make sure the food is room temperature to slightly warm. If the food is heated in a microwave, stir the food thoroughly to make sure there are not hot spots that could potentially burn your baby's mouth.

The Baby Food Process

After rice based cereal, your baby will most likely move on to pureed fruits, vegetables and meat. Until you know what your baby will like, buy small quantities of fruits, vegetables and meat, unless other family members consume lots of fruits, vegetables and meat. After proper washing cut the fruit and vegetables in half and either boil, steam or bake them. If they are baked, place those in a baking dish with enough water to almost cover the dish contents. Vegetables and fruit can be peeled before or after cooking.

Small vegetables such as corn, peas and lima beans do not need to be halved. Bananas can just be mashed and not cooked at all unless that is your preference. Frozen peas are much easier to prepare than fresh peas. If preparing meat, make sure all traces of fat are removed and when cooked, make sure the meat is well done with no trace of pink.

Bake the fruits and vegetables for about an hour at 350 degrees (Fahrenheit) or until they are soft. During the cooking process make sure there is sufficient water in the dish to avoid burning the fruits and vegetables and add water if necessary. When the fruits and vegetables are baked, take the dish out of the oven and let cool. Peel the fruits and vegetables, if not already peeled, after they have cooled. Cook the meat until there is no pink showing.

Place the cooled fruit or vegetable in a food processor for pureeing. Add water to the mixture until the appropriate consistency is reached. If you add too much water, dry baby cereal can be added to thicken it up. If a food processor is not available, a hand mixer or a meat grinder will suffice or in the event a mechanical means is not available, mash the fruits and vegetables with a fork until there are no lumps present. That method will be very time consuming.

The food should be very thin for babies beginning to eat solid food, and as they grow older and have some solid food eating under their belt, the food can be made a little thicker. As the baby ages, the fruits and vegetables will just have to be chopped into small pieces rather than mashed or pureed.

Once you know what kind of fruits and vegetables your baby likes, you can mix different flavors together such as bananas and peaches or peas and squash.

Using Organic Fruits and Vegetables

Organic fruits and vegetables are grown without the benefit of, or with a limited amount of, synthetic material, such as pesticides or other chemicals. Organic food is grown according to regulations and certified and labeled as organically grown. Food organically grown develops antioxidants to protect themselves against garden pest and, as a result, develop into a vegetable or fruit with higher levels of antioxidants. That means the fruits and vegetables are richer in minerals, vitamins and other pro health nutrients.

Eating organically is not just for mom and dad, but baby too. Making organic baby food will assure you your baby is getting the real deal. Who is to say a jar of baby food marked as organic is really organic? Organic fruits and vegetables were once only available in health food stores, or they were home grown. Today, organic food of every kind is available not only in specialty stores, but the average, everyday grocery store.

Organic food is prepared the same way as any other food. They can be steamed, boiled or baked and then mashed or pureed. As the baby gets older, food can be cut into small, bit size pieces, making it finger food babies can eat on their own.

The Benefits of Making Homemade Baby Food

If you have ever read the label of baby food bought at the grocery store, you will find some ingredients you have never heard of before, and some you will not be able to pronounce. I like to make my own food. It gives me the ability to control the ingredients and the quality of the food.

Another benefit of making baby food is cost. It is far less costly to make baby food than to buy it by the jars, especially since the ingredients can be purchased in bulk and in season. Making homemade baby food will even be less costly if the ingredients are homegrown.

Pilates for Health During Pregnancy

Pilates is considered by many as the best exercise during pregnancy. Since Pilates helps in strengthening your core muscles, this form of exercise may also help you as you go through pregnancy and labour. Pilates practised during pregnancy will focus on movements that will strengthen muscles in your abdomen, back, and pelvis. Muscles in these areas are responsible for supporting the body during pregnancy and childbirth. The benefits that Pilates can assist with, for the expectant mom, is the return back to their normal figure after delivery.

If you would like to attend Pilate sessions, there are qualified instructors who can help you. Remember that Pilate classes for pregnant women are very different from ordinary classes. Pre-natal Pilates entail careful body movements because when pregnant you need to know what forms of exercises that are appropriate. Do not attempt to do Pilates on your own if you are unsure which exercises to do as this may jeopardize your health as well as your baby's. Seek advice first.

Pilates for pregnant women is not exactly stressful and physically demanding because during pregnancy some women may have only limited range of motion, especially in the later months. During these exercises, focus on your body and be aware that your energy levels may change from time to time. Be careful not to overdo the movements and pay attention to signs that you must slow down. Once you feel a bit lightheaded or when you are already chasing your breath, take a break and breathe deeply until you feel you can breathe properly again. When using any Pilate's equipment, make sure that you have someone around to assist you in case you may need help.

If you would like to practice Pilates during pregnancy, there may be moments when you feel like you are strained more than usual. This is normal. Due to hormonal changes, your muscles and joints will experience suppleness but be sure not to overdo it. Do not get too carried away by your sudden flexibility. Pilate exercises can be moderated for expectant moms so anything that is more advanced must be avoided.

As much as Pilates can benefit you and your unborn child, there are some precautions that you must understand. Here are some of the things that you must be aware of while doing pre-natal Pilates.

1. Exercises for abdominal muscles must be done in moderation to prevent your muscles from separating or what most would call "diastases recti".

2. As your baby develops in your womb, your weight increases which can cause back muscle strain. Prepare for this by doing Pilates exercises that will strengthen your lower back.

3. Do not attempt to do exercises that will entail you to lie on your back especially if you are in your second trimester. Health professionals do not recommend pregnant women to do strenuous activities that will require them to lie on their backs because it may elicit unhealthy conditions on the mother's vascular system.

4. Be aware of your range of motion and do not overdo your exercises. Remember that during pregnancy, your muscles, joints and ligaments are vulnerable. Thus, you may be more prone to have injuries and tears.

5. Because of the weight of your child, your centre of gravity has changed so take note of this when you do pre-natal Pilates exercises.

It is recommended to keep active and fit during pregnancy. This will help your overall good health and increase immunity. Have a happy and enjoyable pregnancy.

Q: Dear Dr. Lan,

I have been diagnosed with endometriosis.  I was told my options include pain killers or surgery to cut out my uterus. Are there other options?

A:  You have effective, safe and time tested options that don't require hacking out reproductive organs.  According to large scale clinical trials, the effect of administering herbs on a daily basis for 2-3 months is that 78-88% of patients experience relief of common symptoms, such as painful menstruation and excessive menstrual bleeding.  The herbs were shown to reduce prostaglandins, regulate hormones and immune response.  Complete treatment time is around 3-6 months. The best results come from a customized herbal formula tailored for your individual needs.  We determine this based on classical diagnostic criteria and compare this with labs for T, FSH, LH, PRLand E2.  You don't need to suffer needlessly when a better way has been around for thousands of years.

The Ultimate Diet

1.  Decide your movement.  Go hiking, dancing or anything that gives you exercise and puts you in touch with your bdoy.  If the movement is good for you, it will tell you what to eat.  Avoid extremes.

Begin gradually, then scale a waterfall.

Martial arts are a great way to get in shape and get in touch with your natural instincts.

Too tired to move?  Start with this.  It is a great way to begin exercising from the inside out and it will also reprogram your body to start craving what is good for it.

2.  If eating tells you how to move, you will become unhealthy.
What do you feel like doing after cheesy poofs?

Exactly, sitting down and using your brain.  The fastest way to throw your body off balance.  You crave easy sugar because your brain is consuming sugar faster than your body can produce it.

3. Check your tongue coating.  If its thick and heavily coated, move more, eat less and return to step one.

Intestines are coated with food sitting in moist tropical temperatures.  Fungal party waiting to happen.  Checking your tongue is the easiest way to tell how efficiently you are digesting.

Sweet flavor slows down qi and brings people joy.  Most of this food is used to balance emotions temporarily at the expense of the body and long term emotional health.  Move and get sun, fresh air and your qi will flow making you happy.

Eat to jump, climb, kick and dive.

This formula is composed of seven herbs.  One of them is raw ginger.  That leaves six which need to be grown.  These can be grown on every arable continent.  It is a great antiviral formula.  There will always be viruses we need to contend with.  Zhang's gift to humanity will preserve us as it has the Chinese people.
